Floating & Open-Tread Stair Nosing — Custom Fabrication Tampa Bay
Floating and open-tread staircases have no risers — each step is visible from multiple angles. A standard nose piece isn't enough. This kit wraps all exposed edges with a custom fabricated nosing or stair block cut from your flooring material.
Why floating stairs need a different approach
On a floating or open-tread staircase, the tread is visible from the front, both sides, and sometimes the bottom. A nose piece that wraps only the front edge leaves the rest of the tread visually unfinished. FIR fabricates a fully-wrapped nosing or stair block that covers all exposed surfaces — front face, both returns, and in some cases the underside edge — for a fully finished architectural result.

When do you need this kit?
Open-riser treads
No riser board between steps. The tread face, both ends, and often the underside edge are visible. Requires a thick, fully-wrapped tread or block.
Cantilevered treads
Treads that appear to float from a wall or structural spine. The free-hanging end needs to be finished on all sides — front face, underside, and tip.
Winder or pie stairs
Tapered treads in curved or L-shaped staircases require custom cutting to fit non-rectangular shapes. Each tread is measured and cut individually.
How this works — floating stairs process
Call, text, or use the estimate form. Describe your staircase — floating, winder, or open-riser — and Victor will confirm whether this kit fits your project.
FIR measures each tread in place — dimensions, exposed edges, attachment points. This visit is necessary for floating stairs because standard dimensions don't apply.
You receive a firm quote based on the actual measurements. You confirm and bring your planks to the shop (or we source the material with your approval).
Your custom pieces are fabricated and ready for pickup or local delivery. Installation can be included in the quote.
